ThemeTrail is based in Germany and operates under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Here's how we handle your data — written in plain language, not legalese.
What We Collect
If you just browse the site: We collect basic analytics data (pages viewed, approximate location by country, device type, referral source). This data is anonymized and aggregated. We don't track individual users across sessions.
If you email us: We store your email address and message content to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to any mailing list unless you explicitly ask.
If you subscribe to the newsletter: We store your email address for the purpose of sending newsletter emails. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
What We Don't Collect
We don't use tracking cookies for advertising. We don't sell, share, or rent your personal data to third parties. We don't use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads remarketing, or similar tracking tools.
Cookies
ThemeTrail uses minimal cookies. Our analytics solution uses a first-party cookie to distinguish unique visits. No third-party advertising cookies are set. The speed tester tool stores your filter preferences in your browser's session storage (cleared when you close the tab).
Third-Party Services
We use Cloudflare for CDN and DDoS protection. Cloudflare may set security cookies. Their privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Google Fonts are loaded from Google's CDN for typography. Google's privacy policy applies to this data transfer. We're evaluating self-hosting fonts to eliminate this dependency.
Your Rights (GDPR)
If you're in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. You also have the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact page.
Data Retention
Analytics data is retained for 26 months, then automatically deleted. Email correspondence is retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry, then deleted within 90 days. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe.
Changes
We'll update this policy if our data practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when the latest revision was made.
